Michael Lee's a star of school, stage and playing field. A golden boy in a Jack Wills hoodie. They have nothing in common but a pair of cheating exes. So why can't they stop snogging? "

REVIEW:

I've been a fan of Sarra Manning's books for years now. I even remember reading some of her writing in now defunct UK teen magazine "J17", and thinking it was funny and true. For me, she's one of the best writers of contemporary teen fiction in the UK, which is part of the reason why I was so looking forward to "Adorkable". I'm loathe to admit I was mightily disappointed, but unfortunately I was. I finished the whole book as is always my policy, but it was a struggle.

"Adorkable" started off well enough. I thought "Yes! Cool characters! Realism! Laughs!", but I was soon deflated and not able to get into it at all. My major problem was the characters. I tried to like Jeane's pretentious name and self-centred qualities, but I couldn't. Eventually, ever word out of her mouth annoyed me and I just wanted to rip her out of the book and throw her out of the window. I think she was actually supposed to be like this and, by the end of the book, I think I should have liked her. But I didn't. She was horrible to Michael and thought she was better than everyone, and that does not a cool girl make. Oh, and the vocabulary she used was bordering on cringeworthy. But more on that later.

Michael Lee, as Jeane refers to him ALL the way through the book (argh!), was slightly better than Jeane, but he didn't do anything for me either. I found him bland and nondescript, and didn't like the way he basically lay down and took all Jeane's rubbish. Even when he stood up to her, I was wondering why he bothered and why he was even with her in the first place. I don't think they suited at all, but that's just me. I know other readers have read this book and adored both Jeane and Michael, so obviously they're just not my kind of people.

I did buy their surface attraction to each other, a mad lust overtook them and they snogged at every given opportunity. I never felt anything deeper between the two of them besides an immediate attraction and a respect for Michael's overall physique, though I wish I had. If I'd been more invested in their relationship, I think I would have liked them more. Or maybe that's the other way around. I think Sarra Manning did depict the first throes of a teen romance very well, that all-consuming, I-can't-stop-thinking-about-him feeling came through well.

Another thing that really bugged me about "Adorkable" was the language Jeane used. She said things like "totes" (totally) and "blates" (blatantly) amongst others. Now I know these words are used these days, well, I've heard "totes" before, but I usually see them used on Twitter as a joke. After a couple of uses of each, I was so irritated I wanted to put the book down straight away. Perhaps it's my age - I'm twenty-five, after all - but I would like to meet a real-life sixteen-year-old who talks like that. It would verify a lot.

Also, I got so fed up of hearing how dorky Jeane was, and how she went to so much trouble to stand out and be apart from her peers. It wasn't endearing or admirable, it was just over the top. She wasn't actually *that* good, not like she thought she was. Eurgh. If I'd been at school with her, I'd have avoided her at all available costs. I was also puzzled as to how she'd ended up as a huge internet sensation, the kind with half a million Twitter followers and thirty thousand e-mails waiting for her in her inbox. I've never heard of anyone getting that many emails, and I know from blogging and using Twitter myself that gaining that many followers would take quite a while, and you'd have to be pretty famous. I didn't believe Jeane's blog could ever be as big as it was made out to be, and the fact that she got invited all over the world to speak at events was ridiculous. I didn't buy a word of it. I did like that Jeane was a blogger, though. I could relate to that.

I realise this review is a negative one, and I feel bad about that. I have loved almost all of Sarra Manning's other books, but this one definitely wasn't for me. As I mentioned earlier, lots of other bloggers, reviewers and readers have enjoyed this one immensely, so I hope you'll still give it a chance and won't be put off because I didn't like it. I'll still be reading Sarra's future books, I just hope I like her next one more.

Psychology What Is The Nlp Language Model

Psychology What Is The Nlp Language Model
The NLP language model has been deprived from such people as Gregory Bateson, Alfred Korzybski, E.T Hall, and George Miller - many sources. To conceptualize the model we can say such things as the map is not the territory or the menu is not the meal. We can never describe things fully to completely understand the experience. Some of the main concepts of the model include: The world at large - "the only reality we have is inter-subjective reality; that is, each person's view of the world at large is observe dependent and as such true for him/her" (Kostere and Malatesta,1990). In short, it's impossible to have full truth in perception. Each reality of the world is different from every person, and different through their differing perceptions. The NLP model attempts to recognise the fact that it is possible for individuals perceive the same reality in a variety of differing methods which give people the ability to change their waves or thoughts about experience. Sensory Experience - Our internal systems translate sensory information (sound, vision, touch, smell, taste) according to our learnt and inherent patterns. This fact has two major implications. - The automatic internal patterns that we have imbedded in our brains determines to a large extent what is most significant and 'thus worthy of transformation' into the sensory experience. - The distinctions we make worthy of 'experiencing' are determined largely not by our environment but are simply the end product of subconscious processing. Experience of experience - We have internal representational systems that determines largely how experiences in the outer world are stored internally. These experiences are essentially the building blocks of experience. It should be noted that experiences at this level are subject to the constraints of conscious awareness. Information gets filtered out by the subconscious through these representational systems but does get stored there. Conscious awareness according to George Miller is only able to be aware of 7+ 2 chunks of information per second. The other important consideration that we must make from this is the fact that behaviour isn't determined largely by consciousness but by the subconscious. Language - Language or the symbolic sounds that are can be representations of experience cannot perfectly describe the or a reality. From this we can see that slippages can occur since experience can never be portrayed accurately. From this we must understand that language is a rule governed language and therefore incomplete. That the real meaning from a statement of language can be accessed by not easily discernable in some cases. Although language is of deep benefit (obviously), it can cause miscommunication through slippage points whereby language doesn't accurately portray the experience.

Voices

Voices
Ukrainian ladies have the nicest voices! The Ukrainian language is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. It is considered one of the most beautiful languages along with French and Italian.

The written language is Cyrillic. However the spoken language differs from Russian. It is smoother. Cyrillic derives from the work of Cyril, a monk who created the written form of slavic languages. He combined existing letters of other European languages including Greek.

Men are Attracted to Women's Voices

Recent psychological studies show that men are attracted primarily to a woman's voice. Ukrainian women have voices like none found in North America, and are uncommon in Western Europe, you will be pleasantly surprised. The study determined that a woman's voice shifts slightly when she is ready to conceive. In studies using only recordings of ladies voices, men rated woman's voices as "most attractive" when they were ovulating. So, the male of our species discerns differences in voice. This happens regardless of his conscious understanding.

Update: October 14, 2013- I have been living in Kiev now for almost 11 months. I am still amazed by how different women's voices are. Women in Ukraine not only dress, walk, and behave differently, their voices are very distinct from American womens' voices.

Review Camden Town Tales The Celeb Next Door By Hilary Freeman

Review Camden Town Tales The Celeb Next Door By Hilary Freeman
Publisher: Piccadilly Press

Format: Paperback

Released: February 2011

Grade rating: B/B+

Amazon summary:

Rosie has lived in Paradise Avenue, Camden Town all her life. As well as the market to hang out at and gigs to go to, there are celebrities to spot, and TV studios where she and her best friends Sky and Vix might get noticed. When Rosie finds out that the drummer from a chart-topping group is moving into the house next door, she makes it her mission to befriend him. But things don't turn out quite the way she expects...

Review:

The Celeb Next Door is the first Hilary Freeman book I've read, and I think it was a great place to start. It's the launch title for her brand new Camden Town Tales series, and is a fast-paced, east to read story perfect for teenage girls. It's chock-full of romance, friendship and celebrities, and paints a brilliant picture of London. I for one have never been to Camden, but now I want to - the markets sound amazing!

Each character in The Celeb Next Door is realistic and likeable, and generally behave as teenagers do. I personally couldn't identify with the constant celeb spotting that Rosie, Sky and Vix make a bit of a hobby, but that's because I've never lived in a star-studded area. I imagine it's a lot of fun though, like Rosie learns, status isn't everything!

Music plays a big part in this book, as the drummer from a popular band movies in next door to Rosie. Being a music fan myself, I loved this aspect of the book - how cool would it be to get an insider look into band goings on?! Of course, the fact that Rufus has a cute younger brother, Max, is pretty much all that's on Rosie's mind. They're so well suited, and go through all the usual problems and dilemmas teenagers are hit with. I completely believed in them and their down-to-earth personalities, and Freeman has a great style when it comes to writing teen behaviour.

Fans of Cathy Hopkins' Million Dollar Mates series will love this, as well those who like Cathy Cassidy's various girly offerings. I'm really looking forward to the next Camden Town Tales book, Stuck On Me, and I hope it's as good as this one. Fingers crossed there isn't long to wait!

Newsflash

Newsflash
Here's a couple of fun things to do with your newspaper to liven up the romance during any old boring week!

Feature your spouse on the front page.

I created a "Husband of the Year" theme and wrote an "article" about how wonderful he was using tid-bits that I may not tell him very often. It was a sneaky way to express my appreciation!

Yup, that's my hubby. Isn't he handsome? He really does deserve this award. :)

Create a Classified Ad

...a fake one, of course. Type up, print out, and glue into your classifieds section. There are several options:

"1. HELP WANTED AD" - (shown above) This is a creative way to ask your handyman to help around the house without nagging...you get some things done that have been waiting, and he gets a massage (or any other "currency" you choose to compensate him with). Win-Win!

"2. PERSONALS AD "- woman seeking man.....(you can get creative with this one)

"3. JOB NEEDED - "good looking woman looking for a temporary personal assistant position. "previous experience/skills: "experienced masseuse, recommended personal chef, etc. (insert your skills here)." Hopefully, your spouse will get that you are offering to be HIS personal assistant for night/day/whatever.

So, these type of things are all about the wording--so get creative, look at real classified ads and design an ad that your husband (OR WIFE...I know it's mainly women who follow this site, but I certainly am not discriminating the men. In fact, I encourage them to visit!)...anyway, hopefully THEY will get a kick out of any ad or article you put in the classifieds.

Okay, all you brilliant lovers...what else would "you" do to create a little romance with your newspaper?
