Got a date with the girl/boy of your dreams? Nervous? First dates can be nerve-wrecking things. When you go on your first date with someone new, you want it to go well of course, you want the atmosphere to be right and you want to make the right impression, after all, this could be the start of something big
So how can you make sure your date goes swimmingly? Well the simple answer is that you can't, but picking the venue might help to set the mood for a little romance. So here's how to pick a restaurant.
MAKE SURE IT'S EASY TO FIND
Well obviously you don't want to get lost on the way there, and ideally you'll want your date to turn up too. Picking somewhere that you can both find easily will help ensure you both get there on time and with minimal stress.
First dates are stressful enough as it is, so don't add to your stress levels by picking somewhere hard to find.
CONSIDER THE NOISE LEVELS
First dates are all about getting to know each other, things can be tricky at first, but hopefully once you break the ice, you can have a good conversation. Picking a place with a little background noise is good for setting the mood, but too much noise will hinder your conversation and could just make things awkward.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT FOOD
If you know what type of food your date likes then you can pick somewhere especially, so don't be afraid to ask. If you're not sure, it is normally best to be conservative; don't pick strongly flavored or spicy food, just in case your date doesn't like it.
Check out a few menu options in advance and try to pick somewhere with plenty of options on the menu, particularly in case he/she has any dietary requirements (eg, gluton intolerance or vegetarian).
SOMEWHERE NICE TO SIT
Seating is important too; firstly, you want to be comfortable, but also think about where you are sitting. For a first date you want a little privacy so that you can talk amongst yourselves without being interrupted.
Ideally, consider a restaurant where can have a booth or a private corner to yourselves. You at least want to have some space and not feel too close to other customers, especially if the restaurant is very busy.
PICK SOMEWHERE COMFORTABLE
It is always tempting to pick the nicest place you can find (or at least the most expensive you can afford). Certainly, going somewhere too down market could kill the mood, but you shouldn't go to up market either.
Aim for somewhere that you both feel comfortable. If you are into high class restaurants then go for it, but if not, somewhere relaxed and laid back is ideal. Don't try to impress your date by showing off.
AND IN SUMMARY
Just remember that first dates are all about getting to know one another. The restaurant doesn't really matter; you just want to pick a place that allows you to relax and get to know each other.
